I’ve been answering a lot of questions about weight management; exercise/workout routines and sticking to diets. No doubt this is because summer is approaching and we’re hoping to get into shape ready for the sunshine!
For almost everyone who struggles with new routines, the main issue is trying to stick at it until the routine becomes habit and we are no longer fighting against ourselves. Here we focus on increasing motivation, will power, confidence and energy to help give that edge and gain control of our body and mind.
Once we have these things and know how to maintain them, sticking to our new life choices becomes enjoyable and effortless. But this can be made difficult by a few different things; poor body image is one of them and can be tough to overcome.
Bad body image can start very young for both men and women and can lead to eating disorders and mental health issues. So anorexia, bulimia, obesity, depression, anger, anxiety and more can be added to what needs to be addressed when trying to take on these new routines. Issues like this can cause people to fail over and over again but it would never occur to them that building confidence and better body image would be a way of helping them achieve this goal.
We are under the impression that if we achieve our ideal weight or get a “6 pack” then we will feel better about ourselves, this may be true but what really needs to happen is we need to start feeling better about how we look first because this is going to make us happier and give us the best chances of success when creating and sticking to new routines.
So pay attention to your mental health as well your physical health, they both need some TLC!
