Depression is different to normal feelings of sadness, it is when these feelings are constant, lasting for long periods of time with or without clear reason.
When we are depressed we can; feel disinterested and distant; lose enthusiasm for things we used to enjoy; not want to leave the house or involve ourselves in social activity; develop bad habits; see quick changes in our weight due to loss of appetite or overeating and many more symptoms.
How does Hypnotherapy help depression?
It is becoming more and more well known that Hypnotherapy works well to treat symptoms of depression. Depression is something I help my clients to overcome every week, almost on a daily basis.
In Hypnotherapy when people see me for their initial consultations with symptoms of depression often accompanied by sleeping issues, they quickly learn what depression is and how it is created. Depression is part of our instinctive responses developed throughout evolution as a safety mechanism. Nowadays it sadly is much more a hindrance to our lives than it is a benefit.
In therapy I will teach you how to understand the brain, the body and the symptoms you are experiencing. Giving you the tools needed for you to be able to come up with your own solutions.
Hypnosis in then used to communicate with the subconscious mind, helping to change thought patterns and behaviours at the subconscious level. This is also known as creating new neural pathways or “rewiring the brain”.
This helps the mind to adapt to these new patterns, allowing you to more easily make changes in your life without you being held back by the hesitant, emotional part of the mind.
What is Hypnotherapy Like?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is different to what you might think. In this therapy we will never ask you to disclose sensitive, difficult memories from your past. We do not use age regression to take you back to childhood to try and find a root cause that might have been the reason behind your symptoms. This approach is not a pleasant one and we know from the research of Milton Erickson, it is not necessary identify an underlying root cause to our problems to move forward.
Instead we focus our time and energy on finding the solutions to our problems. Identifying the next steps to take and how to take them. Therapy is an enjoyable process and my aim is to give you all the tools and knowledge you will need to be able to take back control of your life and become the best version of yourself.
