Pain & chronic pain management.
You might be surprised to learn that pain is actually dependent on a psychological factors such as; thoughts; beliefs; emotions; behaviours and habits. From these, the central nervous system can either amplify or reduce pain signals that are sent to the brain. What this means is that by changing these contributing factors we can change the way we feel pain and in some cases, even make it completely disappear! For example...
Have you ever cut yourself and not realised until you’ve noticed blood or somebody has pointed it out? Then as soon as you’ve seen it, suddenly it starts hurting! This is a very basic example of how our perceptions and thoughts can amplify pain signals, as soon as you were aware of the cut, the pain was amplified.
This one is probably more relevant to the ladies... Imagine you’re out with friends in your favourite - but most uncomfortable - pair of shoes. The pain of the shoes is becoming really unbearable, then someone you really fancy starts chatting to you. Chances are that all perception of the pain is completely gone until sometime after the encounter.
Here we can clearly see that pain is not a constant and using the right tools, can be changed.
